and that of other girls

Yaa W. was simply what I needed to get my life in focus. I realized that I could not know everything, but I could definitely keep learning and keep getting better than the previous me. I was reminded throughout the entire program that the whole world was waiting for all that is inside me so I had to always bring my A-game. I saw Yaa W. as an opportunity to become more confident in my abilities and if anything, learn more to add to what I already knew. It was either Yaa W. or my first internship and I am insanely grateful I chose Yaa W. instead, because I now know that with all the skills I have gained, and the motivation, I can stand tall and make it out there. I currently have started making plans to begin developing my own mobile application for the problem of transportation in Ghana. Thank you Yaa W!

I applied for the Yaa W. program because of the exciting opportunities that it promised to deliver. I have never regretted taking that step. The program, has served the purpose of a mother nurturing a child to be great.

I have made substantial progress over the past few months and I wish to impact someone in the same manner. I won’t forget the values, knowledge and skills that I have learnt from this program. Because of Yaa W., I hope to make valuable contributions wherever I find myself.

To me YaaW is a social enterprise that teaches and helps young women understand what it means to be a woman of color in today’s global business environment and how to rise above the stereotypes and challenges we may face by equipping us with the necessary skill set and knowledge to ensure professional and personal success. YAAW presented itself as a great opportunity for self development and a platform where young women like myself can gain working, practical knowledge through the various tasks, activities & speaker sessions lined up. This, coupled with my academic background in finance sparked my interest in the program & led me to put in an application.Through interactions with seasoned facilitators, entrepreneurs, business leaders and other university students from Ghana and beyond,  YAAW laid a strong foundation for me and created an environment ample enough to further hone my teamwork skills and leadership qualities. YaaW not only met my expectations but gave me friends, taught me the relevance of networking, and most importantly helped improve my self-confidence.

I applied to Yaa. W to get enough knowledge about using Excel in the corporate settings since most companies require applicants to have maximum knowledge in it. I am excited to say I have gained more knowledge in Excel than I expected. I can now model out business problems and find solutions to them, and from this I can confidently say I am fit to make my dreams of being a financial analyst come true. To me, Yaa. W is a platform for young girls like me who want to learn how to be successful in the corporate world given the likely challenges women face in their attempts to climb the ladder of success.

Yaa W. means to me a family of talented minds and great leaders making an impact in the world around us. It means great experiences of learning from each other, coaching, collaboration and mentorship. I applied to this program because I realized I had the wrong idea of what the real world what like  transitioning from school to a career and was excited about an opportunity for young girls like myself to be equipped for the industry. YaaW has given me valuable experiences and the essential professional skills to excel as a female in the male-dominated industry of technology. I have been inspired to become a confident and visionary leader. Being shaped to become a global leader, I have been transformed as an individual and empowered to take initiative, tap into the qualities that make me exceptional and create a change in the African continent and beyond.

To me, Yaa W. means a home.  A place of comfort, empowerment, peace and room for achieving future goals through education, training and building strong self-esteem. Through Yaa W., I received two internship offers in just 1 week after the program. Yaa W. has inspired me to challenge myself to try something new and take up greater opportunities in my career in finance.

Yaa W. to me means empowerment. It reminds me that I am capable of doing and achieving whatever I set my mind to and even more. From Yaa W., I have had the opportunity to job shadow at Microsoft Ghana. I learned the importance of asking relevant questions because it reveals your intellectual curiosity, critical thinking skills and leaves a lasting impression. Overall the program has inspired me to strive to be the best in everything I do.
